What is Ghraiba?

It is a popular sweet cookie in Libya, known for its melt-in your-mouth texture and lightly sweet flavour. It is often enjoyed during special occasions or as a daily indulgence with a hot beverage. Made with simple ingredients, Libyan Ghraiba is a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Ingredients

  • 5 Cups of flour
  • 1 Cup of Powdered Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon of Baking Powder
  • 1 Cup of Ghee
  • 1 Cup of Oil
  • Blanched Almonds
  • A few drops of Orange Blossom Water

Steps

  • In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients: Flour, powdered sugar and baking powder.
  • In a separate bowl add the ghee and oil, then add it to the dry ingredients, and mix until well combined into a dough.
  • Wrap the dough and place it in the fridge for 20 minutes to firm up.
  • Preheat the over at 180°c
  • Roll the dough into small balls and place them on a baking sheet.
  • Using your finger, make an indentation in the centre of each ball.
  • Dip the almond in the orange blossom, then press an almond into the centre
  • Bake the Ghraiba until they start to crack.
  • Let it cool for 10 minutes and enjoy.
