Last year my husband and I decided to go on a spontaneous trip to Crete, Greece. Yes, I know last minutes bookings and planning can be stressful, but we knew for sure it was going to be a trip of a lifetime.
Crete, Greece the largest and most populous island in the country. Situated in the southern part of the Aegean Sea, Crete is a captivating destination that offers a perfect blend of ancient history, natural beauty, and, warm Mediterranean hospitality.
Crete offers a plethora of experiences for every kind of traveller. Immerse yourself in the local culture by strolling through picturesque villages, where you can taste traditional Cretan cuisine, and witness traditional music and dance performances.

For nature enthusiasts (like myself), create boasts breath-taking landscapes, including the dramatic Samaria Gorge, Europe’s longest Canyon, and the stunning beaches of Balos, Elafonisi, and Falassarna. Explore hidden caves, swim in the turquoise waters, and unwind under the Mediterranean Sun.
Crete’s warm and hospitable locals will make you feel right at home, we made unforgettable moments and cherished memories Crete offers a delightful blend of experiences that will captivate your senses and leaves you yearning for more.
Chania, Greece
Chania is a captivating destination known rich history, charming old town, beautiful beaches, and scenic landscapes.
We started our exploration by wandering through the enchanting street of the old town of Chania. We checked out Venetian architecture, narrow alleys, and colourful buildings. Admiring the picturesque Venetian harbour lined with cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy a meal while watching the sunset over the sea.




Venture outside the city and explore the stunning beaches that surround Chania.
We headed to Elafonsi (Known as the “Pink Sand Beach”). There are other beaches of Falassarna and Balos known for their turquoise waters and unique rock formation.


These beaches offer a perfect place to relax, swim and soak up the Mediterranean sun.
Indulge in the local cuisine of Chania, which is renowned for its delicious flavours and fresh ingredients. Here are the three we went for.
Perperas (Chania, Crete)
It is a family-owned Greek restaurant where an invite you to experience the warmth of Greek hospitality and indulge in authentic Mediterranean flavours. The restaurant’s charming and cosy ambiance reflects Greek Culture’s essence. Serving family traditional Greek dishes passed down through generations.

Remezzo (Chania, Crete)
It is a popular restaurant situated along the picturesque Venetian Harbour, offering beautiful views of the waterfront. Remezzo is known for its traditional Greek cuisine, including fresh seafood grilled meats, and a variety of Meza (small dishes). Remezzo provides both indoor and outdoor seating options, allowing visitors to enjoy their meals while taking in charming surroundings.

Anassa (Chania, Greece)
It is a luxury hotel located in Chania, Crete. The hotel serves many unique coffees on-site along the view of Venetian Harbour. I ordered the homemade lemonade and honey lavender cappuccino.

While exploring Chania, you will encounter the warm and welcoming nature of the locals who are proud of their Cretan heritage. We engaged with the locals, understanding their traditions, and embracing the authentic Cretan lifestyle.
Agios Nikolaos, Crete
Agio Nikolaos is a charming coastal town located on the eastern side of the island of Crete in Greece with its picturesque setting, crystal-clear waters, and lively atmosphere, it offers a delightful destination for your trip. Here is what we did during our visit to Agios:
Explore Lake Voulismeni (Agios Nikolaos)


We started our trip by visiting the iconic Lake Voullismeni, which sits in the heart of Agio Nikolaos. We strolled along the promenade that surrounds the lake, enjoy the views, and relaxed at one of the cosy cafes and tavernas nearby.
La Strada (Agios Nikolaos)
It is a popular restaurant, where it is known for its charming atmosphere situated doing picturesque Lake Voulismeni. La Strada offers a diverse menu with a variety of dishes, including fresh seafood, Greek specialties, pasta, and vegetation options.

Discover Agios Nikiolaos’ old town (Agios Nikolaos)
Wander through the narrow streets and alleys of the towns’ charming views. Admiring the traditional Cretan architecture, browse through local shops selling handmade crafts and souvenirs and savoy delicious Cretan Cuisine at the quaint tavernas.



Our trip to Agio Nikolaos was unforgettable. Experiencing the warm hospitality of the locals, tasty Cretan cuisine, and finally appreciation of the idyllic coastal town.
Malia, Crete
Malia is a popular tourist destination located on the northern coast of the island of Crete in Greece. It is known for its vibrant nightlife, beautiful beaches, and rich history.
Malia offers a diverse range of experiences for visitors. Here are the activities we did during our time in Malia:
Enjoy the Beaches (Malia, Crete)
Malia is blessed with beautiful sandy beaches that stretch along its coastline. We went to the Potamos beach which was perfect and relaxing. Malia is blessed with the basking sun, swimming in turquoise waters, and various sports activities.


Experience the Nightlife (Malia, Crete)
Malia is renowned for its vibrant nightlife scene, particularly catering to the younger crowd. The main strip of Malia offers a plethora of bars, clubs, and music venues where you can dance the night away, enjoy live performances, and socialize with fellow travelers. My husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a late-night Greek coffee.

We explored the charming old town of Malia. We strolled through the narrow street, discover local shops, and relaxed at traditional tavernas serving delicious Cretan cuisine.


Cretan Family (Malia, Crete)
It is a family–owned restaurant operated by members of the same family passing the recipe from generation to generation. The restaurant offers a huge menu with a variety of dishes, including fresh seafood (which we ordered) and Greek specialties their traditional family recipes passed down through generations. The restaurant was a warm and welcoming atmosphere making customers (like myself) feel like part of the family.

During our trip to Malia was memorable having the chance to soak up the sun, explore the nightlife, and immerse yourself in the beauty of Crete’s coastal landscape.
If you are seeking relaxation or adventure, then Malia is for you. It offers a diverse range of experiences to suit every traveler.
As our trip comes to an end, we conclude our exploration of the enchanting island of Crete. We carry with us the beauty of its landscapes, the richness of its history, and the warmth of its people. The journey has been a tapestry of captivating moments. Unforgettable experiences, and a deep appreciation for the island’s unique charm. Crete has woven its magic around us leaving an indelible mark on our souls.
