Discovering the magic of spontaneous Travel: My 48-hour adventure in Prague

Last-minute trips are something I enjoy, particularly because they provide the freedom to travel without having to make any prior arrangements. My spouse and I recently made a spur-of-the-moment decision to visit Prague, which is located two hours away from our home in Dresden. We wanted to take advantage of this opportunity before we relocate to Paderborn, which is located on the other side of Germany.

Day 1

We arrived early in the morning around 8 am hoping to get there around 10ish. The fog, however, caused us to decide to leave around 12ish, hoping that it would clear up by then.It was a smooth ride (Thank God). As we drove through the picturesque Bohemian vibrant city of Prague, the first sight we encountered was this unique building called the “Dancing House”. Here is the link and description of why they called it the “Dancing House”.

After we settled into our Airbnb, we put our belongings away, rested a bit, and headed for the city center. Around 5ish, we wandered around the old town square and discovered the back streets.

Prague is a relatively small city and you can literally cover it in a short time. After walking for about an hour, we tried a traditional Czech sweet called Trdelnik. This is an old Bohemian sweet pastry made of yeast dough. The dough is rolled on a cylinder and baked over hot coals. In the end, it is coated with sugar mixed with cinnamon or nuts.

Definitely worth trying if you ever decided to visit Prague.

After walking around the center and the city hall late at night, we headed back to our Airbnb.

Day 2

Woke up around 7:30 am, checked out, and drove back to the City Center looking for the right breakfast place. (The weather was just perfect, especially at the end of October of las year)

We came across a café called Paul. We ordered a creamy cappuccino and sweet peach pastry. We chilled a bit and went on our way to discover and explore new places around the city (sorry I didn’t take a picture of the pastry).

We walked through the Jewish Quarter through the Charles Bridge ending up in the Old Town Square to check out the Astronomical Clock. Also, wandering around the vintage and beautiful streets of Prague. It would have made more sense if you had a tour guide since we did not: It would have given us an idea of what we were exploring. Also, it would have been easier to give us directions in the city. (As I said, spontaneous trips are still the most fun)

In the evening, we headed out for dinner. I craved Middle Eastern food. We found one called “Jaffa Restaurant Prague”. We ordered hummus with lamb, Lebanese salad (Tabuleh), and chicken Sharawama to share.

Taste – 9/10
Appeal – 10/10

Definitely worth trying.

After dinner, we walked back to the old town square, wandering around at night. We stopped at a Café called “Cerna Madona” and got a hot chocolate, coffee, and custard slice.

This is how we ended our trip. It was a last-minute trip. Prague and I would definitely like to go back again, maybe during the summer to see what the city is like then. We saw a lot and discovered incredible places, but there is still much to do.
